Michigan falls at Purdue

Michigan Purdue BasketballThis was a slow starting game. It took Michigan almost 7 minutes to score their first points. The good news was that Purdue had only scored 4 points in that same span. DeShawn Sims scored Michigan’s first 6 points, on two triples. Then Jevohn Shepherd came in and gave Michigan a lift. Zack Gibson and Anthony Wright also provided a spark off the bench. When Gibson tipped in a bucket at the first half buzzer Michigan took a 27-26 lead into the break.

Coming out of the break Michigan appeared to be playing with some confidence and was leading 29-27 at the 18:28 mark when Manny Harris inadvertently elbowed Chris Kramer in the nose. A flagrant foul was called and that was fine even though there was no intent on Harris’ part to elbow Kramer. The Purdue crowd went nuts as Kramer lay on the floor bleeding. So the officials decided to eject Harris. I think that was a bad call. He was called for the flagrant foul, that was all that needed to happen. Heck when Novak got bloodied by Legion there wasn’t even a foul called on that play not to mention an ejection.

Harris getting ejected deflated Michigan and Purdue dominated the rest of the game. The Boilermakers coasted to an easy 67-49 win.

The road to 21 wins: It is getting a bit bumpy. This was not a projected win. The breakdown is as follows: there are 4 games left that I had them projected to win (Penn State, at Northwestern, Minnesota, and at Minnesota). There are 5 other games left on the schedule, plus the Big Ten tournament. I think the best case scenario is that Michigan wins 3 of the 4 I had them projected to win which would put them at 17 wins. That leaves 5 games left plus the Big Ten Tournament to get 4 more wins.

By far the worst call I have seen all year. I have never been more pissed at the refs. They totally screwed Michigan with that call and handed the game to Purdue…bullshit.

  2. Joe says:

    Why is this post hidden?

What is hidden? Ejecting Manny was bunk

OH YEAH, HE WAS ACTUALLY IN THE LOCKERROOM FOR A VERY LONG TIME, UNLIKE KRAMER, WHO HAPPENED TO JUST “CONVENIENTLY” COME RIGHT BACK OUT AFTER MANNY GOT EJECTED [IF HE REALLY WAS HURT, THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE]. IN SHORT, ****^^^^IF THE HOME GAME AGAINST PURDUE WASN’T ON THE RADAR BEFORE AND IF IT WASN’T A RED-LETTER “CIRCLED” BEFORE, IF NOT MOST DEFINITELY IS NOW!!!!^^^^****

I WILL DO ALL I CAN TO GO OUT OF MY WAY TO HELP ALL OF YOU DEFEAT PURDUE ON FEBRUARY 26, 2009 [JUDGEMENT DAY AND, IN ESSENCE, IT WILL BE A DAY OF RECKONING] AND PROVIDE ALL OF THE BULLETIN-BOARD MATERIAL THAT YOU CAN USE!!!! So are you saying you’re upset about it Wolverine? Yikes. I agree with Joe, yet again, that this was one of the worst calls I’ve seen in a long time. I was out of control when I realized they booted him. They might as well have stopped the game and handed it to Purdue right then too. A huge road game for Michigan stripped from us by the stripes. B.S.!

  7. Kingpong says:

Yeah right.. Come on they did not lose because Manny was kicked out of the game. It helped Purdue but what makes you think they win that game with Manny?

“A huge road game for Michigan stripped from us by the stripes”????

What over the last 6 games has proven to you they could beat Purdue on the road?

  8. 9er says:

Um, maybe how they were playing in that game numb nut.
Did you see the run Purdue went on right after he got ejected?
We have no chance in any big 10 game but maybe Indiana without Manny. If he gets a suspension for this we’ll lose that game too.

  9. Kingpong says:

They lost by 18. They shot 6-23 from the 3. They were out rebounded by 8.

You think the run was because Manny was ejected? I am pretty sure the guy being knocked out and the home crowd going crazy may have had something to do with it. It was a Big Ten road game. Even if Manny stays in the game they lose that game by double digits.

  10. michiganbasketball says:

Any chance they had at winning that game was lost the minute Manny was wrongfully ejected

  11. Snake says:

I don’t think Manny’s hit warranted him being ejected by any means, however…..I also don’t think Manny was innocent. He knows the kind of defender Kramer is and as I looked at the replay, it seemed that Harris knew exactly where Kramer was. I know he was just trying to get some space, but with Kramer as close as he was…I think Harris knew what he was doing, but does that fact alone make it flagrant?……It could….soooooooo I think it was a flagrant foul and I think Manny intended to hit Kramer……but to be ejected when Legion wasn’t on his cheap shot vs Novak…somehwat different circumstances..

  12. Joe says:

Kingpong, that ejection fueled the fans and the players, it gave them momentum that they didn’t have to earn, and from that point on they outscored Michigan 40-20…so I think it’s obvious that it had a huge impact.

  13. 9er says:

Kingpong stands alone on his own island.
